Professionals in Instructional Technology and Human Performance Technology adhere to codes of ethics in these fields. These codes are to ensure that we adhere to the best practices and work toward the greater good of the learner and the field.

IT CODE OF ETHICS
We follow the AECT code of Professional Ethics
Commitment to Individual: We are committed to recognizing the diversity of the people we work with and to avoid harmful stereotypes. Our recommendations will keep the health and safety of our learners at the forefront of our discussions. We will respect the personal rights of our clients, an treat them with respect. We will not infringe on the rights of others.
Commitment to Society: We are professionals, and will represent ourselves with honesty and integrity. We will not act for personal gain at the expense our our clients. We will honor our commitments, and give realistic expectations about outcomes.
Commitment to Profession: We will be respectful to other members of the profession. We will behave as ethical members of the profession and encourage others to do the same. We will engage in research that will further the profession and share our results to the benefit of all. Our Research will follow ethical standards. We will respect the copyrights and works of others and give proper credit to others' work.

HPT CODE OF ETHICS
We follow a standard of ethics and principles adapted from the AHRD Standards of Ethics and Integrity by Ingrid Guerra.
We believe the following qualities are necessary as HPT professionals:

Competence: We recognize when we are at the limits of our expertise and will not step beyond the boundaries where we add value. We will seek out new opportunities for professional growth.

Integrity: We believe in being honest, fair, and respectful to those we work with and other in our field, while avoiding conflicting relationships.
​
Professional Responsibility: We uphold a professional standard of conduct and accept responsibility for our behavior. We will recognize every population is unique with unique needs. We work with many HPT professionals to ensure ethical behavior in the field and in ourselves.

Respect for People's Rights and Dignity: We respect the rights of individuals to autonomy, privacy and self-determination. We do not participate in discriminatory practices based on individual, cultural or role differences.

Concern for Other' Welfare: We seek to contribute to the welfare of those we interact with as professionals. We will recognize conflict between a client's rights and their welfare and act responsibly to avoid or minimize harm.

Social Responsibility: We understand that we are part of a greater community and will work to add value to our communities and environment while minimizing harm. We will work to advance human growth sustainably.
